Setup Icon Style Guide

4

Check if a style guide already exists at uiIcon Style Guide. If it does, summarize their current style and ask if they want to modify it or keep it as-is. If no style guide exists, proceed to setup.

5

Explain the approach briefly:
"This creates pixel art icons in the classic Macintosh tradition—clean, disciplined, every pixel deliberate. The core aesthetic is fixed (that's what makes it work), but you can customize the mood and color approach."
Then ask the mood question:
"Should your icons feel serious and utilitarian, or friendly with subtle personality?"

  • Serious — purely functional, tool-like, no-nonsense - Friendly — approachable, slight warmth, inviting but still disciplined
6

Then ask about color:
"How should color work in your icons?"

  • Pure black and white — maximum contrast, timeless, classic 1-bit - Small color palette — 2-4 flat colors, still disciplined, indexed color feel - Single accent color — black and white with one signature color for emphasis
If they choose accent color, ask which color.
7

Confirm their choices: "Got it—[mood] icons with [color approach]. Ready to save?"
If they want changes, adjust. Keep it simple.

8

Generate the styleguide using sliceStyleguide Format Specification. Lock these values:

  • weight: medium (always—this is the Kare standard) - corners: soft (always—friendly precision, not harsh) - metaphor: literal (always—clear, recognizable objects) - size: medium (always—optimized for 32-64px grid)
Set based on user choice: - mood: professional (if serious) or friendly (if friendly) - palette.primary: monochrome (if B&W or accent), full-color (if small palette) - palette.accent: null (if B&W or palette) or [their color] (if accent)
    Save to uiIcon Style Guide.
9

Confirm the save, then ask: "Your style guide is ready! Want to create your first icon? Describe anything—a word, a feature, a whole document—and I'll distill it into a pixel art icon."

You MUST use a todo list to complete these steps in order. Never move on to one step if you haven't completed the previous step. If you have multiple read steps in a row, read them all at once (in parallel).

Add all steps to your todo list now and begin executing.
